Democracy on the march

Georgia
Afghanistan
Ukraine
Palestine
Iraq
Lebanon
Egypt
Saudi Arabia
Kyrgyzstan

This is amazing.

Democracy is certainly not inevitable. Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan are not true democracies yet – and Egypt and Saudi Arabia will probably not become democracies in the next few years and Lebanon and Kyrgyzstan aren’t necessarily shoe-ins either. But they have made positive steps toward becoming more democratic. Unfortunately democracy doesn’t always win out. Zimbabwe and Venezuela are just two countries out of many that have become more and more despotic in recent years. But you have to admit: the progress is impressive.

TKNews has its own intrepid correspondent in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The fearless Tim Koss has been living in Bishkek for a while now. He actually spent Christmas in Ukraine as an election monitor. He made sure there were no shenanigans during the election no the 26th. Now he’s in the middle of another revolution, the Kyrgyz revolution. As soon as he emails me back how things are going, I’ll let you know.

Until then, a few articles on Kyrgyzstan: here and here.
